How to prepare a material handling equipment enquiry

Material handling equipment should be specified around the movement required. A pallet truck, stacker, lift table and machinery-moving trolley have different load interfaces and working tasks. A clear brief helps a supplier identify a suitable product family before comparing model capacities and prices.

Choose the task before the model

For pallet transport, begin with pallet-truck geometry. For elevated pallet positioning, examine a stacker and its mast, forks and support-leg arrangement. For material positioning on a platform, consider a lift-table specification. For moving machinery on low rollers, describe the complete moving arrangement and support points. These are starting categories, not a determination that a particular unit is suitable.

Document the load interface

Give the actual load mass, footprint and distribution. Pallet equipment also needs entry height, fork openings and underside construction. A platform cart should be checked for the base contact and stability of its load. When a trolley is part of a machinery-moving set, confirm how weight is distributed across the support points rather than adding nominal labels without review.

Specify the required dimensions

State working height and clearance with units. For pallet trucks, provide fork length and overall fork width. For stackers, include capacity at the required height and the necessary load-centre information. For lift tables, provide the lowest and highest working positions and the required platform size. Ask for a dimensioned drawing when a catalogue entry is incomplete or ambiguous.

Describe the route and operating conditions

Include the floor surface, available aisle space, obstacles and turning requirements. State whether travel is manual or powered and whether lifting assistance is needed. For battery equipment, confirm the battery and charging configuration as well as the destination electrical supply. Features shown on another family should not be assumed to apply to the selected unit.

Add the procurement and receiving requirements

Provide order quantities by configuration, destination country, packaging preferences, sample needs and the desired delivery date. Request current model specifications, instructions and the documents relevant to the actual product. Confirm transport dimensions and gross weight for the selected packing arrangement. A price comparison is meaningful only when the configuration and included items are aligned.

Review a model-specific offer

Check that the quotation answers the original brief and identifies unresolved selections. Record the approved model, dimensions, operating arrangement and documents in the order. A catalogue image is a useful reference, but the supplied equipment must match the agreed configuration and its identification. Keep the specification record for repeat purchases and replacement enquiries.
